What are the rates of contamination at the Macarthur Resource Recovery Park?
The Ecolibrium Mixed Waste Facility is designed to process general household waste. The major types of material considered as contaminants within the facility are hazardous and clinical wastes, which can endanger human health and contaminate the facility’s products. Materials received at the facility which are defined as hazardous wastes include: • Household materials such as batteries, medical equipment and medicines, clinical waste, chemicals, paints and solvents • Garden chemicals including pesticides, herbicides and pool chemicals • Motor vehicle wastes like oil filters, sump oil, grease, and other fluids • Asbestos, treated wood, gas cylinders, explosives and ammunition The facility is currently in a commissioning phase, so lower volumes of waste are being accepted for processing than will be the case when the facility is fully operational, and the current contamination rate may not be representative. It is designed to tolerate up to 1% contamination from hazardous waste. Bulky wa
