A normal cohort would be made up of between 5-8 centuries. At the top of a professional soldiers career the rank would have been Prefect. There would only have been one of him, in modern day parlance he would have been a sort of RSM type figure. The next is Tribune, these would have ben drawn into the legions from the aristocratic classes. they would hope to make a name for themselves to enhance their political careers after their service with the legion. Next up is Laget he’s the guy in charge of a Legion. Above him would be a general who would be in charge of several legions.
