What are the radioisotopes used for agricultural purposes?
In agricultural biotechnology, radioisotopes are used in conjunction with other molecular biology and biochemical techniques to study important pathways and the intermediates produced. When an agricultural crop is found to produce an eonomically important product (like tobacco), scientsists would like to know the pathways that are responsible for producing the product of interest. Therefore, they label precursor molecules with radioisotopes in order to study the metabolic pathways.
