What are the Qualifications for US congress?
Informal qualifications include such factors as party identification, name familiarity, gender, ethnic characteristics, and political experience. Formal qualifications for becoming a member of the House of Representatives or a member of the Senate differ. To become a member of the House of Representatives one must be at least 25 years of age, have been a citizen of the US for at least 7 years, and be an inhabitant of the state they are running for representative in. To be elected to the Senate one must be at least 30 years of age, have been a US citizen for at least 9 years, and be an inhabitant of the state they are running for Senate in.
