AFD will be accepting applications for both traditional and lateral hires. A traditional hire is a person who may not have any previous firefighting experience. A lateral hire is a certified firefighter/EMT that has been employed as a full-time paid structural firefighter within the two years prior to the date of application for one or more municipalities, Emergency Services Districts (ESDs), military or county fire departments, and has a total of three years of active service as a firefighter. For a complete list of qualifications is posted on the website, click on the Minimum Qualifications link at the top of the page.
