What are the purposes of the different column types?
A. There are seven types of data that can be entered into the grade book. • Alphanumeric: Used for small amounts of text such as dates, nicknames, info containing letters and numbers • Calculated: This column can perform simple math functions such as sums and averages. This column can be used to calculate the final course grade. • Letter Grade: Will return a grade of A,B,C,D,F after being provided with the scale for the course. The letter grade column looks at another column such as a final total points column. • Numeric: This column only stores numbers. Grades from in-class assignments and assignments graded automatically by Blackboard are stored in numeric format. • Selection List: Allows you to select from a drop-down list. Examples are: Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor. • Text: Allows you to enter larger amounts of text than the alphanumeric column. The text type allows you to enter paragraphs of text. This is a great feature if you are wanting to keeps notes on the students’ progress.
