What Are the Public Policy and Constitutional Implications of Including Pregnancy as an Element in Drug Crimes?
Sponsored by the American Constitution Society, Law Students for Reproductive Justice and the Student Affairs Office. Jill Morrison of the National Women’s Law Center discussed a range of prosecutions brought against women based on their drug use while pregnant. Crimes charged have included reckless endangerment, child abuse and homicide. Morrison will address the illegitimacy of such prosecutions as both poor infant and maternal health policy and serious violations of the constitutional rights of women.
