What are the Pros/Cons with blown-in expanding foam insulation?
Foam insulation is cutting edge. It seals the envelope and insulates at the same time. It also soaks up a ton of sound. It has been tested and proven in the field. The R value does not include that it eliminates infiltration so the effective r value might be more than than the stated r value. Sometimes it makes the house so tight mechanical ventilation is needed to comply with ASHRE 62.2. This not really a bad thing in fact it is good just something to be aware of. Controlling where fresh air comes from improves indoor air quality. The product is not brand new but is not used as much as other types and might be a challenge to find a qualified contractor. It is more expensive than other types.
