What are the pros and cons of disposable nappies?
Pros: – Convenient if you’re out and about Cons: – Overall very expensive (4,000 – 6,000 disposable nappies used on average between birth and potty training at 2 yrs old). This works out at £700 – £1000 whereas reusables would cost between £180 – £320! – Disposables are left sitting in your bin for upto 2 weeks depending on the frequency of bin collection – Terrible for the environment unless you opt for the more expensive biodegradable ones (Moltex Öko). The benefits of re-useables are: – Todays re-useables are much the same design as disposables so no need for pins if you’re worried! – Great absorbency rate but it’s also easier to detect when a nappy needs changing as disposables bulk up and draw moisture away to the point that you’d think the nappy was dry and a change wouldn’t be required. – Reduces the risk of allergic reaction, and nappy rash. – Re-usables are now made of lightweight, fluffy materials that wash and dry easily. – No longer necessary to soak and can put straight in
