What are the pros and cons of an automated collection system?
The primary advantage of an automated solid waste collection system is lower labor costs. The primary disadvantage is higher initial capital costs for vehicles and special refuse carts. If rear yard collection is offered with automated collection, it will require a manual pick-up by a separate crew to those homes. Additionally, some streets may be too narrow for an automated collection truck. These streets would also require manual crews.
