I really don’t know very much about International Adoption. We made our choice to go with the U.S. because we a) wanted a newborn and b) our agency was recommended by a friend who had already been through it. We did an Open Independent Adoption. Meaning, the birth mother chose us and we disclosed all our information to her and had contact. I believe when you adopt internationally it is closed and you never have any contact with the birth parents. This is easier for some even though you get the child at an older age. What is the average waiting time before you are able to “receive a child”? From the day we signed up until the day Mia was born it was exactly four months.
