Property taxes vary from 0.5% to 1.5% of the declared value of the property. However, Costa Ricans are a resourceful people and properties are often undervalued by at least 20 percent when they are registered. In addition, any profit realized is non-taxable in Costa Rica since you’re buying your property under an S.A., which is comparable to a corporation in the United States.
