What are the procedures of the obesity surgery?
All types of obesity surgery go through three stages. At the pre-surgery stage, carefully selected patients are given standard blood and urine tests. Next, an anesthesiologist will discuss with the patient about the administration of anesthesia and how their body may react to it. Pre-surgery counseling is also provided, if necessary, to clear patients of any doubts and anxiety about the operation. The obesity surgery often lasts 2-3 hours. Patients will be under general anesthesia and the operation is usually performed in a hospital by a surgeon experienced with obesity surgery. The patient will stay in hospital for 2-3 nights, depending on how complicated the surgery has been. At the post-surgery stage, obesity surgery patients will attend follow-up consultation sessions on dietary changes, steps to return to solid food and ways to maintain normal body weight.
