What are the procedures for a cesarean?
First your doctor will describe why a cesarean is necessary in your case, and what complications may arise. Once you have agreed and understood, you will be asked to sign a consent form allowing the doctor to perform the surgery. Before you are taken to the operating theater, anumber of preparations must be made. You will receive a blood test (CBC, blood type, clotting ability and Rh factor), in case a blood transfusion is required during the surgery. If there is the oportunity, the anesthesiologist will discuss various pain relief options with you. The nurse will insert a device called a Foley catheter into your bladder to keep it drained during the operation and if necessary set up an intravenous drip (I.V.) to administer medication. Your pubic hair will be shaved in order to clean and prepare the area where the doctor will make the incision. In the operating room the anesthesiologist will prepare the anesthetics while you are placed on the operating table on your back with your legs
