What are the problems with installation under Win98SE/WinME?

A6: The support of USB interfaces was limited/incomplete with the earlier version of Windows, like 98SE and ME. But since the SBS-1 requires a USB connection the support from the OS is mandatory. We experienced some problems with Win98SE when installing the USB drivers. This driver emulates two serial channels, A and B. At installation the routine sometimes tries to install channel B first, which is wrong. Just skip this installation step, the routine will proceed with Channel A which is installed fine. Then, when the SBS-1 is connected or the PC rebooted, the second channel B will be installed. Only then the USB connection to the SBS-1 will work ok. Further there is an error messages showing that a certain .CAT file is missign. You can safely skip this message, this file is not required under Win98SE. In general the installation should work fine with a “clean” Win98SE setup, i.e. it might be necessary to re-install the OS and all system and security updates offered by Microsoft.
