I started a school in Sierra Leone, so I can tell you from first hand accounts. There is a lot of sexism in Africa, and so if a family is poor they will only send their sons to school, and even then sometimes they pull them out so that they can sell knickknacks along the road. Now, there are wealthy Black families in Africa contrary to the belief of most Westerners, but there is also crippling poverty throughout the continent. If there wasn’t sexism, a lot more girls would be going to school instead of parents just deciding in some cultures to sell them off for marriage as young as possible. Also, besides sexism there is severe amount of corruption in sadly most African nations, such as Nigeria, where you have the very rich who own most of the wealth and are just about 5-10% of the people and then the rest are extremely poor.
