What are the primary components of the Districts School Safety Program?
The District has a District Safety Plan as well as building-level safety plans that address prevention, including the fostering of a healthy school climate; intervention, the response to incidents that compromise school safety and security; and postvention, procedures to implement after certain kinds of incidents. Each building has a Building Safety Committee that reviews and revises building evacuation and drill procedures, security practices and other building safety issues. In addition, each elementary school has a building-based team that develops annual action plans to enhance student achievement and to promote positive school climate through character education and bullying and substance abuse prevention programs. A District crisis response communication plan defines the roles and responsibilities of District personnel in responding to and managing a crisis situation.
