What are the prerequisites for attending the Basic Police Academy?
Most law enforcement agencies have a minimum age requirement, require a prescreening process and some college credits. It is suggested that you contact your local agency about their individual hiring requirements. For those who are not employed by an agency and plan to attend the academy on their own, please contact The Academy for further information. The first step in enrolling in a Basic Police Academy course is to participate in the Entrance Assessment (EA) testing process, which consists of two parts. The written portion is a multiple choice English Comprehension-Vocabulary exam. The physical agility test consists of running 220 yards in (1) minute or less, and climbing a six-foot wall in (1) minute or less. The test is pass/fail and those who successfully complete the test receive a certificate of satisfactory completion. Students attending the Basic or Core Courses must have a valid driver’s license and a copy of their DMV driving record. A letter of approval from the Department
