What are the precautions taken for health and safety during the FYST?
Gallaudet’s priority is the well-being and safety of all FYST participants while abroad. The Study Tour Co-Directors are Dr. Barbara White, Faculty Fellow with the Office of Enrollment Management and Professor in the Department of Social Work, and Ms. Touria Boren, Project Specialist in the Office of Enrollment Management. They will work with the tour company in Costa Rica who will review local conditions, monitor State Department travel warnings, communicate with parents when appropriate through the protocols established with the Office of Public Safety, and advise students about local safety issues, health needs and preparation. All FYST staff going on the trip will take training on health and safety on study abroad trips. The University’s Risk Manager, Pamela Rypkema, consults with the FYST directors and trip staff on health and safety issues.
