What are the pre-existing condition limitations associated with the Graduate Student Health Plan?
When you turn in a claim for treatment of a condition (including pregnancy), the carrier will check to see if you have received treatment for that condition during the 12 months before the treatment date and before you became covered by the plan. If you have, you can receive up to $1,000 in benefits for that condition during your first 12 months of coverage. Once you have been covered under the Graduate Student Health Plan for 12 months, you can begin receiving regular benefits for treatment of the condition. Treatment includes diagnosis and taking prescription medication. For example, let’s say you were diagnosed with a heart condition on Dec. 5, 2008. You become covered by the Graduate Student Health Plan on Sept. 1, 2009, and visit your cardiologist for a checkup on Oct. 21, 2009.
