What are the potential problems with dryer exhaust systems?
Although dryers are equipped with a filter to prevent lint from passing into their ventilation ducts they are not completely effective. As time goes on lint builds up in the dryer duct and obstructs the airflow. This restricted airflow causes inefficiencies in dryer operation and can potentially endanger you and your family. When more resistance is placed on the airflow the dryer overworks and excessive wear will increase maintenance or service calls and reduce the lifetime of the unit. Since the dryer needs to work harder, it consumes more resources (gas or electricity) durring each cycle. Also, clothes may not dry completely in one cycle creating the need for additional cycles which place further unneccessary wear on a dryer and add to the increases in utility bills. The resistance caused by a lint build up will continue to heat up while the dryer is running, and can eventually ignite the flammable lint. Often times the lint will smolder inside the duct work going unnoticed for sever
