Infection is a potential complication. An infection can be serious, harder to treat and progress more quickly in people with lymphedema. Infection in the affected arm can also cause a worsening of the lymphedema. At the first sign of infection, call your doctor. These signs include fever, pain, redness, and increased swelling or warmth in the arm.
