If you become a participant in this research, you will undergo heart surgery for a mitral valve repair or replacement as planned. In addition, before your surgery, you will undergo randomization. This means you will be randomly assigned to receive either the microwave surgical ablation procedure (ablation treatment group) or no ablation (control group) for AF. The random assignments mean you will have a 50% chance of being assigned to the ablation treatment group (like the flip of a coin).
