What are the postive effects of immigration to Spain?
Generally speaking immigrants take on lower paid and lower status jobs that native Spaniards are no longer prepared to do. Generally immigrants work very hard to establish themselves making a disproportionate contribution to the economy. 100 % of immigrants will be of young working age in their 20’s or 30’s so it will be a long time before they retire and become dependent on state pensions. A countries growth generally is the sum of population growth and an increase in productivity so immigration will help increase economic growth. They add to cultural diversity and make native Spaniards more aware of and tolerant of other cultures – of course the opposite effect is also likely in some cases.
