What are the possible Side Effects?
A. No significant side effects have been reported at this dosage of Methotrexate. However, at higher dosage with long term treatment for other medical conditions side effects have been reported such as nausea and vomiting; temporary reduction in the manufacture of red and white blood cells; toxic effects on the liver; and chills and fever. In the many women treated with the single low dose of Methotrexate, none of these adverse side-effects were noted. It must be emphasized that the dose used to effect this abortion can cause anomalies, and you must be certain of your decision to end this pregnancy and be willing to have a surgical abortion should the medications not cause the abortion.
Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn may occur in some patients. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.
There may be some side effects with VAVELTA, although not everyone experiences them. Very common side effects include immediate pain and discomfort at the injection site; this may be associated with transient redness, swelling, itching and/or tenderness, bruising or skin discolouration lasting for several days. VAVELTA may also cause a delayed reaction at the injection site commencing approximately one week following injection. This is a relatively frequent event and may include redness, swelling and itching. These symptoms may persist for several days before resolving spontaneously. There is the very rare risk of a generalised allergic reaction to any of the components of VAVELTA. There is also the theoretical risk of permanent swelling, nodule formation and skin discolouration at the injection site. This type of reaction should be reported immediately.
Ideally, there are no side effects since the hormones are given with the intention of restoring normal hormone levels. Side effects occur only if one hormone is out of balance with the others. It is important to realize that if you experience side effects a simple adjustment will be made to stop the side effects.
