What are the possible criminal penalties for a DUI?
DUIs can be charged as misdemeanors or felonies depending on the circumstances and and whether you’ve previously been found guilty of a DUI. Most DUI arrests in DuPage County are of first-time offenders. The maximum penalty for a first-time DUI conviction is 364 days in the County Jail, a fine of up to $2,500 and court costs. Most first-time offenders receive far less than the maximum penalty if they plead guilty or are found guilty after a trial. Most first-time offenders receive what is called “Court Supervision” and no jail time.
