What are the possible consequences in using the Adaptec AHA-2940 to control my RCD drive?

The Adaptec AHA-2940 (not the UW) is on our list of supported SCSI controllers. Make sure the card s BIOS is version 1.23 or greater. There are a few changes to the settings we recommend for the AHA-2940. Boot up the computer then press CTRL-A when prompted, to enter the SCSI Select Utility. Choose “Configure/View Host Adapter Settings”. Next, choose, SCSI DEVICE CONFIGURATION. Under the SCSI ID for which the RCD is using: — Change SYNCHRONOUS NEGOTIATION to NO. — Change MAX. DMA TRANSFER RATE to 5MB/sec. — DISCONNECT should be YES. Note: The AHA-2940 Ultra-Wide does not allow the user to select the recommended max. 5MB/sec and therefore can cause problems if used. I m using the AHA-2940 and my system is hanging during boot at Adaptec’s CTRL-A prompt with the 5040 attached and turned on, but the system boots fine if power is turned off of the 5040. Try disabling Plug-n-Play SCAM support for the AHA-2940.
