What are the positives of hydropower?
1. The “fuel” (water) comes essentially free of charge. 2. There is no emission of greenhouse gases. 3. The “fuel” is renewable. 4. The whole plant runs at quite low temperatures which helps minimise maintenance. 5. The collection of water in dams (often associated with hydropower) helps conserve the supply which provides reliable irrigation for downstream farmers and helps to control flooding at times of heavy rainfall. 6. The water may often be used to generate several times as it makes its way downstream.
