What are the population trends in this region for various species?
Looking at Project FeederWatch trend graphs for the North Atlantic region, we find different long-term trends for different bird species. Although the average number of birds seen at one time (blue diamonds) has remained relatively steady for 3 of the 4 species represented throughout the 16 years of FeederWatch count data, the percentage of feeders visited (red squares) has varied. For instance, there has been an increase in the percentage of feeders reporting Sharp-shinned Hawk and Rock Dove (now called Rock Pigeon) over time. Brown-headed Cowbirds, however, have been reported at fewer feeders, and at lower numbers, during this same time period, and feeder reports of Downy Woodpeckers have remained steady.
