• Noise impacts are based on nationally accepted criteria established by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). To determine the level of impact, a traffic noise analysis will be performed based upon nationally accepted noise levels. Any such noise impact is based on projected traffic volumes and the number of noise sensitive receptors (ie: homes and/or businesses) that experience an increase in noise levels. A cost-benefit analysis will be performed to determine if the number of homes and/or businesses justifies the potential cost of mitigation measures that could provide the level of noise abatement required to reduce the noise impact to the level acceptable by FHWA’s criteria.
