What are the plans for the memorials now in the park?
The existing memorials are being retained, relocated or replaced with the construction of the new park. The Ferry Landing Memorial will remain close to its present location near the Van Buren bridge. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial grove will be replanted; an interpretive sign will explain the memorial grove and direct the public to Martin Luther King, Jr. Park across the river. The Mater Memorial will remain in its existing location with the addition of an interpretive sign. The Challenger Memorial will be replaced with a new grove and interpretive sign close to its current location near Western Boulevard.
