On most modern laser photoplotters, the smallest pixel size is equal to the resolution. This can sometimes be adjusted to take advantage of the fact a larger spot size can produce a straighter edge with more rounded “stairstepping”. On the Barco Silverwriter with Eagle Optics, the laser spot size is actually about 5 m in diameter.
