What are the parameters of swimming pool water? How can I maintain their balance?
Testing your pool water each morning is very important and can nip a problem in the bud, avoiding big, expensive problems….headaches… The amounts of chemicals that I will mention here are for a 10,000 gal. inground pool, so you can adjust up or down to suit your pool. PH is probably the most important chemical to keep balanced. The perfect level to maintain is between 7.2 and 7.8….or the ‘middle range’ reading on your water test kit. This keeps the acid/alkalis levels in balance. It is most important to check you PH levels after a good rain, because rain is highly acidic and will lower your PH quickly. I add approx. 1 1/2 cups after a good rain. Chlorine levels are also important. More is NOT always better because it dries skin and can burn/irritate the swimmers eyes. Although ‘public’ pools keep their chlorine levels high because of the high volume of swimmers…for a home pool, the ideal level is 7.2. The chlorine levels are reduced by the sun and chlorine must be added each da
