What are the Paralympic Games?
The Paralympic Games started in Rome in 1960 as athletes with disabilities competed in the same sport as Olympians. In 1960, 400 athletes from 23 countries competed. The Paralympic Games are similar to the Olympic Games but for the worlds best athletes with a disability. Like the Olympics, the Paralympics are held every four years and generally use the same venues and athletes village as the Olympics. Q: When did you first go to the Paralympics? A: I first went to the Paralympics in Atlanta in 1996 and also competed at the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games, and 2004 Paralympic Games. Q: What events do you do? A: Pentathlon; 5 events in one day including Long Jump, Shot Put, 100m, Discus, 400m. I often compete in the same individual events as well as the 200 metres and relays. My main focus for the next Paralympic Games will be Pentathlon and relays. Q: What are your PB’s? A: 100 metres: 12.22 seconds – 200 metres: 25.09 seconds – 400 metres 59.05 seconds, – Shot put 13.39 metres ( Former Australian record) – Discus 41.45 metres (Former Australian record) – Long Jump 5.83 meteres – Pentathlon 4161 points (Australian record) Q: Have you won many medals?
