The WRMC endorsed the model WHS Bill on 11 December 2009; details of this are available at Safe Work Australia’s website. The intention of this endorsement is that each State and Territory along with the Commonwealth should adopt the provisions of the model WHS Bill as the law in their jurisdiction by 1 January 2012. It is important to note that the final content of the model WHS Bill as adopted in each jurisdiction is determined by the parliamentary process in each State or Territory or the Commonwealth and so it is not possible to comment with certainty. Each of those jurisdictions have also been involved in the development of the model Regulations and following the public comment period a final version of the model Regulations will be made available for WRMC endorsement. Once endorsed it is intended that the model regulations will be adopted by all jurisdictions as part of OHS harmonisation.
