What are the other advantages of the PC2S engine?
Besides improved combustion, better utilization of heat, reduced internal friction, and dynamic balance, the intake of fresh air into the lower cylinder below the piston insulates the gear case from heat, from piston blow-by, and from other contaminants resulting in less wear on moving parts and significantly fewer oil changes. The higher operating temperatures and increased time available (during one full stroke of the piston) for combustion to take place in the external combustion chambers allows for better air and fuel mixing and a more efficient, cleaner combustion process and for more flexible multi-fuel operation. The hypocycloid gear mechanism creates sinusoidal piston motion that has greater torque characteristics in converting combustion pressure to rotary output motion than in crankshaft engines. In addition, because of the linear rod motion and mechanical balance, the PC2S eliminates several design constraints inherent in crankshaft engines such as stroke to bore ratio, conn
