What are the orthodox catholic teachings regarding the Immaculate Conception and the Bodily Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary?
There is no tradition in the Eastern Churches for the belief that the Holy Mother was born without original sin, although the Eastern tradition tends to the belief that she committed no voluntary sin during her lifetime. The bodily assumption of the Blessed Mother is a reverent and pious tradition which many in the orthodox catholic churches respect. However, neither the Immaculate Conception nor the Bodily Assumption are recognized as dogmas, that is, required to be believed for our salvation.
