What Are The Organic Pollutants In Environment?
This class of pollutants are those which are organic compounds, often resistant to chemical breakdown or decomposition through natural processes like photsynthesis or natural chemical or biologic processes. Some of the ones classed as the most persistent organics pollutants (you will hear them referred to as POPs) are substances like Poly-chlorinated biphenyls (we usually hear these referred to as PCBs), dioxins (they’re a class of hydrocarbons–and are highly toxic), furans (withstand high temps and nearly insoluble in water), aldrin, DDT (used as an insecticide), endrin, chlordane, hexachlorbenzene (referred to as HCB), Mirex (almost completely water insoluble), toxophene and heptachlor (it’s a by product of industrial manufacturing). Organic pollutants in the air can derive from manufacturing and industrial processes, solvent use, or even tobacco smoke. Some major organic air pollutants are benzene, toluene, xylene and formaldehyde. (Most benzene pollution is as a result of auto emi
