What are the options with deck screws? I don want that many screw lines and is there a way to hide them?
Some products, primarily composites, are weaker and need joists as narrow as 9″ on center for proper support. This creates many more screw lines. Expansion and contraction, or shrinkage, is also a factor. Some products have an extreme amount contraction at seams. It can be as much as 5/8″ gaps in cold weather. There is a lot to know about these products because each manufacturer is not equal and behave differently. This is where a skilled craftsman is need for proper installation so the deck looks good all year long. Today’s products are moving toward blind fastener products. These are product with no screws that are visible. Also available is a 2-tone color finish creating a hardwood look. However, just like anything, more bells and whistles can cost more.
