What are the options for a 16 year-old student with a learner ’s licence who did not take high school driver education?
As of June 1, 2006 a 16 year old could apply to take Driver Education if enrolled in a high school. If they are not eligible to take the program through school, they would need to take it through a commercial instructor. They are required to take 6 hours of in-car and 6 hours of in-class. Generally, depending on the location, in-car costs are $45.00 to $60.00 per hour. The maximum a driving school is able to charge for the in-class portion (6 hours) is $150.00.
