Most of the homes containing lead are pre-1950, unfortunately your home could contain lead if built before 1978, and the only way to know is to have a professional test it. If you are having remodeling work performed on your home you are required to have it tested or assume there is lead present – which will add considerably to the costs to remodel. It is cheaper to test and find no lead, than to assume lead is present.
