What are the Odds in New Jersey?
New Jersey schools are adopting a program that seeks to deter high school (and even middle school) students from drinking. The program consists of having a Breathalyzer test for all students before and after school sponsored activities: dances, field trips, etc. Over ten school districts in the Jersey area are considering adopting the program. New Jersey must have a tremendous problem with underage drinking. That statement is true because 30% OF ALL UNDERAGE NEW JERSEY CITIZENS DRANK ALCOHOL IN THE PAST MONTH. Bright ideas, such as the Breathalyzer and random drug and alcohol testing program, are an instrumental part in solving the problems with underage drinking. Parents can help by educating their kids on the risks of alcohol abuse. Whether this is a talk, an intervention or information, it can all make a difference coming from them.
