Colorado ranked second in the nation in over all substance abuse but spent the least on treatment and prevention. According to our internal forecast by 2010 nearly 15% of Colorado residents will need drug rehab. These numbers do not take into account the overwhelming and growing category of prescription drug addiction which could be as high as 15% of the population by 2010. According to the Youth Risk Survey for 2003, • 50% of the students surveyed in 9th through 12th grades had used marijuana and 25% of those had done so before age 13. • And for those of you with kids in little league 25% of their teammates have already smoked marijuana. • Cocaine is used monthly by 5% of high schools seniors, and 8% of people ages 18 to 26.
