What are the objectives of NGMN w.r.t. IPR?
The NGMN Alliance strives to ensure that the creation of a viable mobile broadband ecosystem is not hampered by unfavourable IPR scenarios and royalty terms. The NGMN IPR principles as defined in the NGMN IPR Guidelines are: • Fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND); • Mandatory ex-ante notification; • Aggregated terms. A landmark IPR regime has been established by the NGMN Alliance which aims to deliver more transparency and predictability towards IPR costs associated with next generation mobile technologies. All Partners of the NGMN Alliance agreed upon IPR Guidelines for next generation mobile technologies and a Trusted Third Party Process for anonymous ex-ante notification of the relevant IPR and aggregation of the associated royalty terms.
