Nurses in HCS are required to be licensed and to follow their practice requirements in accordance with state law, in addition to adhering to the HCS and TxHmL principles. Texas law allows out of state nurses to practice in Texas under a multi-state compact license. The Nurse Licensure Compact statutes are found in Chapter 304 of the Texas Occupations Code (TOC), which are also located under “Nursing Law and Rules” on the BON’s website. The statutes describe the state’s membership in the Compact and the requirements for exchanging information between states. Out-of-state RNs and LVNs who have a multi-state compact license have the same practice privileges as a nurse licensed in Texas under these rules and are held accountable to the Texas Nursing Practice Act and Board Rules and Regulations.
