WHAT ARE THE NUMBERS THAT SHOW WHERE LINES OF LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE MEET?
They’re called geographic coordinates. The sphere that is the earth is overlain with a series of longitudinal (up and down) and latitudinal (side to side) lines that indicate the 360 degrees that make up the sphere of the planet in those two directions. That way, any point on the globe can be exactly identified by how many degrees, minutes, and seconds longitude and latitude the point exists on the globe. Note that there are 60 minutes in a degree and 60 seconds in a minute. So, with that resolution, you can pinpoint an object anywhere on the globe to within about 100 feet.
