What are the noise ordinances in the City of Sturgis?
The noise ordinance is broken down into several parts. PERTAINING TO HOMES – This includes musical instruments, electronically produced or reproduced and amplified sound. This section of the ordinance states that between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am if the noise can be heard from 100 feet away from the property line you are in violation of the ordinance. PERTAINING TO MOTOR VEHICLES – This section includes exhaust and electronically amplified sound (car stereos). This section states that between the hours of 7 am and 11 pm the noise cannot be heard at a distance of 50 feet from the vehicle. Between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am the distance is shortened to 25 feet. PERTAINING TO YELLING AND SCREAMING – This section states that between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am if the subject yells or screams and it disturbs the quiet, comfort or repose of any person they are in violation of the ordinance.
