What are the new Ohio Academic Standards?
The standards have been developed in the following areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The standards became law in June, 2001. They are clear statements, describing the knowledge and skills that students should know and be able to do from Kindergarten through high school graduation. The standards do not tell a teacher how to teach, but what has to be taught. The purpose is to provide consistency in every grade level classroom across the state. Booklets were provided to parents in grades K-8 describing the standards. Additional information is available at the ODE website.
