What are the new health and safety rules for window claeaners?

The rules are different depending on whether or not you are an employed or self-employed window cleaner – I suspect you are the latter. Ladders are not banned although there are very sensible requirements in terms of using stabilizers etc. above certain heights. Rather than set out the various rules and guidance in this answer, I have attached the relevant page from the HSE website. Ultimately, if you are self-employed, it boils down to this: – you can clean windows whatever way you want, including dangling from a ledge by your toenails if you wish – no-one will arrest you. If you get injured, then it’s your fault. However, if you injure someone else and have not been following the guidelines, you may find yourself on the wrong end of a writ.
