Further Education: Raising Skills, Improving Life Chances (DfES 2006) set out proposals to improve professional development for the Further Education (FE) sector, including the intention to introduce new regulatory requirements on CPD in September 2007. The regulationsrequire: All full-time FE college teachers to undertake at least 30 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) per academic year, with reduced amounts for part time teachers, calculated on a pro-rata basis with a minimum underpinning amount of 6 hours All FE college teachers to maintain a portfolio of their CPD activities All FE college teachers to be professionally registered.
